New Grass LP (Impulse) synths Real Gone Music is proudNew Grass (recorded in September 1968, released in 1968 on Impulse! Records) marks a bold and controversial departure from Aylers avant garde free jazz roots. The album incorporates R&B and soul horn arrangements, backing vocals, and electric bass, blending elements of funk, rock, and gospel into his expressive saxophone work. Ayler even adds vocals to some tracks, creating an unexpected and provocative sound that challenged listeners expectations.
